Family attacked by wolf at Banff

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Parks Canada says a wolf attacked campers at in Banff National Park and tried to drag a man away before being driven off.

The agency says the very rare attack occurred Aug. 9 at the Ramparts Creek campground north of Lake Louise, Alberta.

Parks Canada wildlife specialist Jon Stuart-Smith says the man was camping with his wife and two children and tried to scare the wolf off by making noise, but it bit him through the tent.

He says the wolf repeatedly bit the man, ripping the tent and started to pull him out. A neighboring camper heard the noise and ran over and kicked the wolf, which then fled.

The man suffered hand and arm injuries and was hospitalized. The CBC says the campers were from New Jersey.
