An administration official confirms President Donald Trump is expected to nominate Heather Nauert as ambassador to the UN Friday.
Nauert is a former Fox News host who is currently serving as State Department spokeswoman.
Her expected nomination was first reported by Bloomberg News. She is much less experienced than current ambassador Nikki Haley, who is the former governor of South Carolina.
Sources say the president cares more about Nauert's loyalty than her experience. Haley has been reportedly known to spar with administration officials.
Nauert's lack of experience could prove to be a stumbling block during Senate confirmation hearings, where Democrats are likely to question her qualifications.
Both Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton are said to support downgrading the UN ambassador position from a cabinet-level job.
