Are You Ready?

If an emergency were to happen right now, how prepared are you?

If you hesitated with answering that question, you might want to consider attending tonight’s emergency preparedness forum in Great Falls.

It’s scary to think that an emergency could happen without any warning. And the scariest part is that you never know when or where it will happen.  What could ease your mind is having an emergency plan in place.

According to a 2015 report by FEMA, 60% of Americans don’t have any emergency plan in place.

If you make up one of those numbers, there are a few things you can do to start preparing.

According to FEMA and the Red Cross, you should do the following:

• Sign up for local texts and warnings

• Collect and keep important documents in a safe and secure place

• Gather emergency supplies “go bag”

• Sit down and discuss an emergency plan with your family

Tonight’s forum is an opportunity to learn more and gain insight on what a good emergency plan looks like."There’s a number of thing in our community that’ll have an effect on you so…nothing like now to do when we’re not having a problem and then when the

problem shows up we’re ready to roll," says Great Falls Fire Rescue Fire Chief Hester.

With limited resources for first responders, it’s up to you to have a plan in place for you and your family.

Tonight's emergency preparedness forum will be hosted by the DES, GFPD, GFFR, and personnel from Malmstrom AFB from 6-8 pm at 1900 9th St S, Great Falls, MT 59405.

Pamphlets, handouts, and equipment will be available for you to handle and see throughout the forum; as well as a Q&A period.

In the end, it could mean the difference between life and death.
