Spirit of Montana

Spirit of the Mountains

Mountains have always been synonymous with Montana, so much so that the state’s very name is derived from the Latin meaning “mountainous”. So it is only natural that in portraying the “Spirit of Montana”, mountains would figure in the formula. Throughout our history, Montanans have been challenged by their state’s size, isolation and rugged topography. That they have consistently overcome these challenges and preserved much of their heritage and in doing so deserve a fitting metaphor. To me nothing symbolizes the “Spirit of Montana” so much as overcoming the challenge of climbing one of our state’s magnificent mountains. To summit one of our great peaks such as this one overlooking Paradise Valley, and meet its challenges requires tenacity, determination and a genuine passion for the region. To me, overcoming such challenges is the true “Spirit of Montana.”
