Paddle Fishing

I decided to try my luck paddle fishing for the first time on the Yellowstone River with my husband Tom. Never had I heard of such a thing! These fish are prehistoric and there is no idea how many are surviving. We went to place called Intake on the river near Glendive, MT. We jumped into a jet boat which took us across the river. I had an ocean fishing pole, 50# line, several treble hooks and a pair of rubber boots. I waded into the water, cast the hook and the fun began. The idea is to snag a fish and get it to shore before it comes unhooked. You cast, pull and reel. Cast. Pull. Reel. You get the idea. After about an hour of this exhausting work, whambo! I had a catch! I screamed for my husband. Everybody reels their lines in and race to your assistance! All are shouting encouragement and instructions. I pulled and reeled and pulled and reeled. Before I knew it somebody grabbed the fish with a grapple hook and I had my fish....a 33 lb. male paddle fish! What a rush! Had it been any larger, I would have been halfway down the river well on my way to the Mississippi! I LOVE MONTANA!
