Gianforte celebrates reelection, Kathleen Williams thanks supporters

Rep. Greg Gianforte retained his seat in the U.S. House, with election results showing him winning 52-45 percent over challenger Kathleen Williams.

Gianforte's campaign issued a release celebrating the win:

"The people of Montana have spoken. With a full heart, I thank voters throughout our great state who have given us this victory. I am grateful for your trust and for the opportunity to serve you.

"While Kathleen and I might disagree on the issues, we both share a passion for serving the people of Montana.

"Yesterday, Montanans made a decision, and I appreciate your continued confidence. Today, I renew my commitment to serve all Montanans, whether I earned your vote or not.

"I'll continue putting Montana first and working with President Trump to keep our economy thriving, make our communities safer, keep our public lands in public hands, and protect our Montana way of life."

Meanwhile, Kathleen Williams says she wishes Gianforte the best and wants to take a break while figuring out her next steps:

"You joined me in working as hard as we could, but we still came up short. Earlier, I called Congressman Gianforte to congratulate him. I hope he will serve Montana well for these next two years.
We must remember that progress requires vigilance. We must still work to make sure Congress fixes healthcare; we must make sure they foster opportunity for all in the economy of the future; and we need to remain vigilant about protecting our public lands and outdoor heritage. We need to work hard, and maintain our integrity. I have not decided on the next chapter of my life, but I will be fighting along with you. We can pass down a better world to our children and grandchildren; I believe that with all my heart."

If she had been elected, she would have been the first woman sent to Congress by Montana since Jeannette Rankin.
