What voters should know before the upcoming general election

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

Tuesday was the last day to register to vote in Yellowstone County. KULR-8 spoke with elections director Bret Rutherford and asked what voters should know about ballots for the general elections in November.

Rutherford said the vast majority of our voters, more than 70 thousand of them, will be getting an absentee ballot in the mail this Friday. He said every household with a registered voter should've gotten the voter information pamphlet regarding the ballot issues. He also said there will be fourteen polling places open throughout Yellowstone County on election day. Rutherford explained what the most important thing is for voters.

"Probably the biggest thing is if you're voting by absentee, make sure that you mail it back to us by roughly Wednesday or Thursday the week before the election," Rutherford said. "Now, we have a processing center in Billings for the postal service, but it's not guarantee next-day mail so don't play with fire. If you know what you're going to do, just vote it, and get it back to us. If you're still not sure, just make sure you mail it by the week before."

If you're not registered right now, remember you can register at the polls on election day.
