Victim of stabbing in downtown Billings identified

According to Assistant Coroner Deputy Richard Hoffman, 31-year-old Louis Lee Oldbear is the victim of a deadly stabbing which occurred at the Hardee's in downtown Billings on Wednesday, August 29th. The cause of death is listed as multiple stab wounds. 


Police say the victim of a stabbing at Hardee's in downtown Billings has died.

According to a press release from the Billings Police Department, officers arrived to find bystanders performing CPR on a 31-year-old male, who
was unresponsive with injuries consistent with being stabbed. The male was medically treated and transported by American Medical Response to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary information indicates there was a physical disturbance involving the stabbing victim and two men, ages 30 and 35.

All persons involved were identified by police and are believed to be transients staying in the area.

The investigation is on-going and no arrests have been made. The BPD has no reason to believe the public is in any danger as a result of no arrests. The Yellowstone County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identification and other information per their policy.


At 8:45 Wednesday evening, police were called to the Hardee’s in the downtown Billings area.

Upon arrival, police say an adult male had been stabbed in the drive-thru at Hardee’s .

Police say the man was transported to the hospital and his condition is unknown at this time.

There is a person of interest in custody.

As of right now, police tape is blocking off the perimeter and detectives are at the scene investigating.
