WEST GLACIER - Some of the firefighters who arrived in Montana to help fight the Howe Ridge Fire came all the way from South Africa.

Firefighters from the Capetown-based NCC Environmental Services are working the Howe Ridge Fire and posting videos to social media of their hard work - and their dance moves.

Most of the hotshot crew members are from Capetown, and a few are from the Eastern Cape, according to Facebook. They bring several years of firefighting experience, and NCC Environmental Services says it's the only South African wildfire company to respond to the U.S. to help fight fire.

The crew arrived in Montana by Aug. 22 and is managed by the local Rocky Mountain Fire Company.

They're keeping busy working on protecting structures and getting used to the chilly temperatures in Glacier - and the crew is discovering unfamiliar landscapes, plants and animals not found in Africa.

The Howe Ridge Fire stands at 12,420 acres and 12 percent containment, as of Aug. 28. It started with a lightning strike on Aug. 11. In northeastern Glacier Park, U.S. and Canadian officials are fighting the 2,000-acre Boundary Fire west of Waterton Lake.
