Warnings issued for fire weather, snow in Wyoming, Montana

Posted: Updated:

RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) - First fire dangers, then snow and cold.

Forecasters are warning that strong winds and low humidity levels across much of Wyoming have created the potential for wildfires to start or become more erratic.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag wildfire warning that was to stay in effect until at least 9 p.m. Sunday. The warning covers much of southwest, central and eastern Wyoming.

Wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour were expected.

A dramatic shift is expected by Monday, with a winter weather advisory in place through Tuesday morning.

The winter advisory covers portions of northwest Wyoming and southcentral Montana, including Yellowstone National Park and the Absaroka mountains.

Temperatures are expected to dip into the 40s with up to eight inches of snow forecast at high elevations.
