Montana actress named to "Best American Actors Under 30" list

Posted: Updated:

One of Montana's own was named to a list of "Best American Actors Under 30," along with notables like Jennifer Lawrence, Elle Fanning and Zoey Deutch.

In an Indiewire poll of film critics, one chose Lily Gladstone, a Native American actress from the Blackfeet reservation. She recently starred in a major film alongside Kristen Stewart called Certain Women, depicting tough ranchers' lives. The film screened at Sundance to critical acclaim.

Critic Sarah Marrs writes in praise of Gladstone:

"I’m cheating and I DO NOT CARE because LILY GLADSTONE is a REVELATION. I first saw her in Kelly Reichardt’s “Certain Women”, which premiered at Sundance in 2016 when Gladstone would have been around 29, so THIS COUNTS. I will FIGHT for my right to name Lily Gladstone. Her performance as a lonely ranch hand who attempts to form a relationship with a townie lawyer (Kristen Stewart) is quiet devastation and has stayed with me ever since I saw that movie two whole years ago. You can feel every ounce of her stifled passion and yearning and I stayed for the credits specifically to learn Gladstone’s name."

Gladstone tweeted the news and said she's glad to "feel 29 again!" She is 32 years old.

Gladstone also featured in Winter In the Blood, a 2013 drama set in Browning, Montana, and directed by Alex Smith and Andrew J. Smith.

Gladstone has since moved to California to further pursue her career. According to her IMDB page, her recent work includes a pilot for a TV series adaptation of the DC Comics western series Scalped.
