Man faces charges of criminal endangerment after burying baby alive

BILLINGS, Mont. -

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office said 32-year-old Francis Crowly is facing criminal charges after a 5 month old baby left in his care was found buried alive in the mountains near Lolo Hot Springs.

Saturday night, the sheriffs office responded to a 911 call regarding a man threatening people and saying he had a gun while reaching his hands in his pockets. Authorities learned the child left in his care had not been seen for several hours. When Crowly was questioned, he indicated the baby was buried somewhere in the woods.

After a six hour search on foot, a deputy heard a faint cry and discovered the infant buried in a wet and soiled onesie under a pile of sticks and debris. The baby had survived at least 9 hours in the woods alone, but is now listed in good condition at the hospital.

Crowly is currently being held on charges of criminal endangerment with more charges to follow.
