Glacier National Park sees highest-ever May visitor count

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, Mont. (AP) — Glacier National Park says more than 195,000 people visited in May, a record for the month.

The Flathead Beacon reported the previous record for May was just under 184,000, set in 2016.

In May of 2017, the park drew nearly 178,000.

The park’s busiest month ever was July 2017, when more than 1 million people visited.

Glacier’s increasing popularity is crowding its roads and parking lots. Park Superintendent Jeff Mow has warned visitors to be prepared.

Snowplows are still working to open the Going-to-the-Sun Road, which provides sweeping mountain and valley vistas. The road reaches an elevation of 6,646 feet (2,025 meters) above sea level at Logan Pass.

    Northwestern Energy reports 6,000 customers were without power Sunday morning in Butte. The outage was along Montana Street. Crews are responding, but there's no word yet on when power is expected to be restored.  Several customers took to social media pages Sunday morning to find out what was going on.  Northwestern Energy will keep customers updated on its twitter feed.
