Ballot measures you might see in November 2018 elections

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

We are months away from the election that will determine who takes the U.S. Senate Seat, but there are other items on the ballot that you may want to consider.

A potential measure that may be on the ballot in November is the Montana Private Facilities in Public Schools and Government Buildings Restricted to Person's Sex Initiative.

This measure will require all individuals to use private facilities, locker rooms, restrooms, and shower rooms in public schools and government buildings designated for an individual's biological sex, as determined by anatomy and genetics- at the time of birth.

Another potential measure is the Montana Increase Taxes on Tobacco to Fund Certain Health Programs Initiative. This measure will increase taxes on all tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes and all vaping products.

The taxes would be increased to $2.00 per pack,  bringing the total taxes on a pack of cigarettes up to $3.70. Taxes for all other tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and all vaping products, would increase by 33% of the wholesale price.

Lastly, the Montana Ballot Collection measure will be on the ballot on November 6th. This measure is designed to prohibit a person, with exceptions for certain individuals, from knowingly collecting another person's election ballot.

Individuals exempted from the ban will include election officials, postal service workers or others authorized to transmit mail, caregivers, family members, household members, and individuals known by the voter. Besides election officials and postal service workers, individuals exempted from the ban will be prohibited from collecting more than six ballots. Violating the measure would be punishable by a fine of $500 for each ballot collected.

The election will take place on November 6th, 2018.
