Minor flood stage issued for Lodge Grass

BILLINGS, Mont. -

Crow Reservation is under a minor flood watch, with Lodge Grass seeing the most of it. According to Mayor Quincy Dabney, the Lodge Grass Creek has been flooding for about a week.

The mayor of Lodge Grass said Lodge Grass Creek runs into the Little Bighorn river. Both run through the town that consists of about 430 people. He said so far, only those who live on the outskirts of town have been impacted.

Mayor Dabney also said he sat down with Crow tribal leaders and other agencies to discuss the protocols in place, should the town of Lodge Grass flood. He explained the importance of his role in Lodge Grass.

"Taking care of the flooding situation matters to me because I made a vow for Lodge Grass and for the community to keep them safe. I know how it feels to worry about situations where people say 'I could lose my home. I could lose something that matters to me' and I would hate for anyone to go through that."

The mayor said he, along with other community members, banded together a few days ago, to collect sand and sandbags to protect homes. He also said he has plans to hopefully widen the creek so flooding is less of a threat.

Mayor Dabney said the flooding can continue flooding for about a week depending on the rainfall.
