Day one of the Bucking Horse Sale event

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

Friday is the first day of the Bucking Horse Sale. Hundreds of people attended the world famous event.

John Molamphy is from Wisconsin and said he drove 11 hours Thursday to witness this event.

"Never been to Miles city to the bucking horse sale and had an opportunity to come out and here I am."

Miles City is known as the 'friendliest town' in the west. It is also known as the 'cow capital' of the west, but this weekend, it's all about the horses- bucking horses, that is.

The event in Miles City not only consists of the sale, vendors from all over the state are here as well as the rodeo with bull riding and mutton bustin'. Alicia Fettig's two horses are last year's winner of the Saturday futurity and said she's back again this year to win.

"It's just awesome to bring horses here," Fettig said. "We work really hard to raise these animals and it's just amazing to be a part of something as big as the Miles City bucking horse sale. It's very traditional."

The Bucking Horse Sale event will take place all weekend until Sunday.
