Schools in Yellowstone County push for levy mills

Posted: Updated:

Property owners in Yellowstone County will be asked to dish out a little bit more cash.

Several schools are asking people to support mill levy increases to pay for maintenance and the re-purposing of schools in their districts.

The Laurel school board is asking for two levies to be passed which will go towards preservation of the elementary school and the high school.

If the elementary school levy passes, property owners will see their property taxes increase.

That increase will total; $11.14 more for a home valued at $100,000 and $22.28 for a home valued at $200,000.

A second levy on the ballot in Laurel would raise property taxes to cover maintenance needs for laurel high school... the goal is add just over $231,000 to the districts general fund annually.

That levy increase would result in an additional $ 6.57 to a property valued at $100,000 and twice that amount for a home valued at $200,000.

Pioneer elementary school is also looking to update maintenance needs.
If passed, there will be a $13.85 increase for property owners with a $100 thousand dollar home and a $27.70 increase to a $200 thousand dollar home.

Laurel public schools most recently passed a levy in 2007 and Pioneer elementary school passed their last levy in 2012.
