NASA launches first interplanetary mission from West Coast

Posted: Updated:

NASA launched a mission to mars Saturday morning.

And for the first time, an interplanetary mission launched from the west coast.

The space agency's previous voyages to other planets all launched from Kennedy Space center in Florida.

But insight took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

The probe will help scientists draw the first detailed map of the interior of the red planet.

It will take about six months for insight to get there.

NASA thinks the 790-pound craft will land on November 26th.

Insight will be joining five other NASA spacecraft operating on or above mars.
