Murdered and Disappeared Native Women Murdered and Disappeared Native Women

According to the National Congress of American Indians, 84 percent of Native American women experience some kind of violence in their lifetime.
Saturday, tribal members are asking those who wish to stand with them to raise awareness about the issue, to wear red.

"These women are not forgotten, First Lady of Crow Nation Deneen Not Afraid said. "They're not only numbers but they have stories, they have faces. They have families who miss them."
"I have family members that have gone missing or who have been murdered and their stories are never told," Niki Stewart, Crow Tribe Community member said.
On May 5th, many people wear red to stand together and remember these women.
"The red signifies the loss of our loved ones and that we are human too," Stewart said.
Women in tribes across the country have come together for this cause.
Tribal members said, it's an important issue, because it's an ongoing issue.
"In this category of missing and murdered women, there's 12 Crow women and two men," Not Afraid said.
Not Afraid said she hopes to find a solution.
"And that's one of my goals is to start a database so that we can track these. And I hope to do that."
And for all of the women who have yet to be found...
"They are loved and they're missed and there are families that are out there looking for them and that need them," Not Afraid said.
