Food hub aims to bring local produce to local businesses

Posted: Updated:

The Northern Plains and the Yellowstone Valley teamed up with a group of Montana ranchers, farmers, and other local businesses to launch a local food hub.

The event kicked off Tuesday night at the Last Chance Pub & Cider Mill brewery in Billings.

KULR-8 spoke with Patrick Certain who is the co-chair of the food hub kick-off event. Certain said the food hub will help distribute cold storage and processing for local farmers and ranchers so they can put their locally grown products on the tables of local restaurants in Billings.

"The farmers and ranchers, myself as an aspiring farmer, know that it's hard enough trying to get the things out of the field," Certain said. "So this allows for farmers and ranchers to focus on what they're good at and the food hub will operate as the marketing and the distribution and the brains of getting that product out into Billings. So, by doing that, it's going to help us circulate dollars within Billings".
