Monday marked the first day on the job for Dr. Dan Edelman, the new chancellor of Montana State University, Billings.

The chancellor found himself at the Doubletree Hotel having conversations with members of the community. Dozens of community members attended a welcome reception for Chancellor Edelman.

President of Montana State University, Waded Cruzado, introduced the new chancellor at the reception and welcomed him on his first day.

"This is a new day, a day of new beginnings for a wonderful campus here in Billings and an opportunity for us to dream about the future and to execute those wonderful plans that we already have in place," President Cruzado said.

KULR-8 had a chance to speak with the new chancellor who said he has a lot of plans in store for MSU, Billings.

"For the first year, I want to emphasize we need to focus on the university first," Chancellor Edelman said. "I need to make sure our processes are done and our students are taken care of and I'll be working with the community more in the evenings and during the day."

The chancellor said his priority is on his students. He said that was the first thing on the agenda Monday, which was meeting up with the students and having a conversation.
