Body found in Yellowstone River: Family speaks out

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

For the first time, the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office releases a picture of 43-year-old Harriet Wilson.

According to Sheriff Mike Linder, Wilson sustained injuries before her body ended up in the Yellowstone River. Sheriff Linder said Wilson was seen in the downtown area in the days before her body was found Sunday.

Less than one week ago, the body of Harriet Wilson was found in the Yellowstone River near Two Moon Park. KULR-8 caught up with some of the family members who said they are looking for answers.

KULR-8 spoke to three family members. Two of them are cousins who said they were really close with Harriet. They said Harriet is from the Crow Tribe, but has lived in Billings for quite some time. They also said, growing up, they would always hang out with Harriet. One of her nicknames was 'grasshopper'.

The relatives did not wish to go on camera, but said Harriet was a spunky, jolly, and nice human being who always put family before anything or anyone else.

The family walked to where her body was found and one of them jumped in the river, looking for any clues and searching for answers. He said he's angry at what happened to his cousin and wants to find the person that did this to her. He said it's because he doesn't believe her death was an accident.

The family said Harriet's body was returned to them just yesterday. They said now, they'll be able to plan her funeral.

If you have any information regarding Wilson's whereabouts, activities, or companions in the days and hours before she was discovered, contact the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office.
