Internet Parent Presentation

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

A presentation for parents with the Montana Internet Crimes Against Children was held Thursday night at the Family Tree Center. The event is a way to help parents become more aware of technology and how children are using it.

Ofc. Earl Campbell with the Billings Police Department was the speaker for the presentation. He told KULR-8 that when it comes to internet safety, his job is to go online and find ways to keep children safe. He explained his job in the program is to find predators or anyone who may be trying to exploit children through the internet, and bring them to justice.

Ofc. Campbell explained the best ways parents can keep themselves and their children safe on the internet. "Ty to keep up with the apps and things that are being used. That's very hard. It's very labor-intensive. But, if they use Google or Google bing, or other search engines, it helps with trying to keep up with what the apps are. If they look at their kid's devices and see an app they are not sure about, they can always search it and find out what it's used for and things that can be done with it."

The officer also explained to KULR-8 that the presentation can be given whenever asked. He said the group works on a "demand" basis. He explained if anyone wants the presentation, the group will do whatever it can to set something up.
