Fundraisers to be held for motorcyclist hit by vehicle

Posted: Updated:

A fundraiser is organized to help the man who was injured during a crash that happened one week ago on April 11th.

David John Fischer remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Cass and DJ Fischer got married on April 1st this year.

"We had known each other for a little while and we got engaged in January and I wanted a short engagement," Cass said. "So did he."

Ten days later, the couple experienced an unexpected turn for the worst.

"He texted me right before he got off work to let me know that he'd be home and when he wasn't home, I pinged his phone and it pinged at St. Vincent Healthcare," Cass said.

Cass said doctors told her that DJ had suffered a traumatic brain injury and had to perform a craniotomy. He has since been in a medically-induced coma. His mother, Anne Fischer, said he was a very responsible driver when he rode.

"He would tell me so many times 'I always look for a way out.,'" Anne said.

KULR-8 caught up with motorcyclists in the Billings area to ask about the dangers of riding.

"People just not seeing you and I'm a firm believer in 'Loud Pipes Saves Lives' because if somebody is trying to pull into me, I can just throttle it and they hear that and they get over," Motorcyclist Christopher Cleveland said.

"The weather's getting nice so there's a lot of guys that want to get in their vehicles too and just speed around," Motorcyclist Chris Kills Night said. "So we got to keep an eye out for them and people who don't use their blinkers a lot. We can't just stop on a dime on these things."

DJ's roommate and friend, Adam Bozman, started planning fundraisers to help support the couple. Tomorrow will be the first fundraising event.

"From 2 to 6 o'clock, we'll be at the West End Walmart," Bozman said. "We'll be raffling off gift cards to Outback Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Best Buy, and Walmart."

Bozman said raffle tickets will cost five dollars each. He said he has two more fundraisers planned for the Fischers, as well as, a few more in the works. DJ's mom said moving forward, her only son's life will never be the same.

"His future will be a lot different than what we planned for April 1st and beyond," Anne said.

After the fundraiser on April 19th at Walmart, there will be two more fundraisers planned. There will be a fundraiser event on Saturday, April 21st at Outback Steakhouse for the entire day. The next fundraiser is on April 23rd at the West End Walmart in Billings where raffle tickets will be sold again for a chance to win prizes.
