BILLINGS, Mont. -

The city appointed Bill Rash as the permanent fire chief of Billings. Rash has been the interim fire chief since former fire chief, Paul Dextras, retired in July of 2017.

KULR-8 spoke with Bill Rash who said he was very honored and flattered when he got the news that the interim period is over and he was to become the permanent fire chief of Billings. He said moving forward, the fire department will continue to become more cohesive as a team than ever before. He also said he will be working on the budgeting process as well as a long range master plan to implement finances.

Rash said they will also be working towards a shared vision for the fire department and providing services to the community in the best manner that they can.

"You always hope that what you're trying to do in the interim period is doing the best you can for the citizens and for our fire fighters," Fire Chief Rash said. "So you just never know if you're going to be the one selected or not, but it worked out very well. Again, I'm thrilled. I'm very excited and really reenergized."

On behalf of all us here at KULR-8, congratulations Fire Chief Bill Rash!
