Yellowstone County Courthouse's Annual Angel Tree Ceremony

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

Dozens gathered  in the lobby at Yellowstone County Courthouse to remember those who are no longer with us, due to alcohol related vehicle crashes.

The Yellowstone County DUI Task Force hosted its Annual Angel Tree Award of Merit Ceremony. The ceremony recognized individuals in law enforcement and community members for their contributions to DUI awareness throughout 2016.

As dozens of guardian angels on the tree look over family and friends, the good news, there's not as many being added this year.

"Whether that's to do with the task force and additional penalties that have come through or whether it was just sort of a novelty, and it wont happen again, it's still yet to be seen. It was definitely lower this year than it has been in the past 15-years," Yellowstone County Task Force Chairman, Morgan Shaw said.

She says the officers who received an Award of Merit are the ones who, even at the end of their shift, get a drunk driver off of the street, even if that means staying four hours past their shift.
