BILLINGS, Mont. -

Billings Police are investigating after a shot was fired at a Billings Police School Resource officer Thursday morning.

In a news release, the police department states Officer George Zorzakis was driving on Lewis Ave. in his patrol vehicle when he heard a snapping sound.

Police say the officer thought it was ice breaking away from his vehicle. They say when he arrived at Riverside Middle School, he saw what appeared to be a bullet hole located just behind the rear driver's passenger door.

Police say a large caliber bullet fragment, possibly a .45 caliber, was recovered from behind the backseat of the patrol vehicle. Police say they believe the suspect shot a round at Officer Zorzakis from the north side of Lewis Ave. somewhere between the 900 block and Division Ave.

The department released photos of the patrol car Friday morning.

The police department is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect or suspects involved.

If you have any information about this you are asked to call the department at 657-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 245-6660.
