Trump officially nominates Zinke to Secretary of Interior
Congressman Ryan Zinke has officially been nominated by president-elect Donald Trump to the position of Secretary of the Interior. The announcement was made Thursday morning of his intent.
Rep. Zinke stops short of officially accepting the position, only issuing a statement which reads in part, "I look forward to making the Department of Interior and America great again."
Rep. Zinke faces senate approval for the position.
President-elect Trump says in a statement, "As a former Navy SEAL, he has incredible leadership skills and an attitude of doing whatever it takes to win. America is the most beautiful country in the world and he is going to help keep it that way with smart management of our federal lands."
As Montana's at-large representative, Ryan Zinke is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL and holds a degree from the University of Oregon in geology along with two Master's degrees.
If officially appointed to the position, a special election would be ordered by Governor Bullock's office for the vacant position of Montana's only member of the House of the Representatives.
