With hard work and heart, one local athlete trains to achieve more than ever before.

After a strong career with Billings Senior and MSUB Volleyball, Chelsey Walter is not ready to step off the court.

"As soon as I got to college, I got to be like 'gosh, this could be my last four years of playing,'" Walter said. "I wondered if there were other options."

That's when the 24-year-old hatched an idea that her career could continue in the sport she loves.

"My goal is at the end of January to go to Germany," Walter said. "My goal is to make a division II team over there and hopefully go back next August as one of their athletes."

From covering the cost of her trip to Germany, long hours in the gym, and other sacrifices, Walter knows the journey to post collegiate play isn't easy, but she shares a message for all young athletes.

"It's always going to take work," Walter said. "Nothing is going to come easy, and you'll always have to sacrifice things. If you're passionate about it and you want it bad enough, it's all going to be worth it."

Walter also credits a community of support, including family, friends, and her Granite Fitness trainers helping her prepare for upcoming tryouts.

"It's been really amazingly humbling to see everybody's support."

As she continues training for her trip to Germany next January, Walter looks forward to possibilities ahead.

"I know there's just endless opportunity out there," Walter said. "I think it's finally my time to go and try something new."
