BILLINGS, Mont. -

A big announcement was made in the education community Tuesday. MSU Billings Chancellor Mark Nook has been named the next president at the University of Northern Iowa.

Chancellor Nook will be the 11th president of the University of Northern Iowa.

According to UNI, Nook will assume his duties as president on February 1, 2017.

Aaron Clingingsmith, with MSUB public relations, says this is great news for the chancellor. Last week, we reported Nook was interviewing for the job and Tuesday it was confirmed he's taking over as president.

Nook is no stranger to Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Master's degree in astrophysics.

Clingingsmith tells us the search for a new chancellor will get underway soon. For now, he says Nook is dedicated and committed to the students at MSUB.

We'll bring you the latest developments as soon as we get them, on air and online.
