GE Capital in Billings is closing

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

Right now: dozens of families are unsure what their future may look like at the beginning of next year.

GE Capital has been a part of the Billings community since 2009. However, in April of 2015, GE announced  its divesting in sales of GE Capitals.

A manager with Big Sky EDA, Allison Corbyn says there are a lot of transitions as GE works through the business decision to divest. These are rough numbers, but Corbyn says 100 GE Capital employees will be divided between Wells Fargo and Bank of Montreal.

An additional 40 will carry out the first quarter of 2017 and be a part of GE's closing efforts. Corbyn says for the remaining employees, they'll work with GE to figure out other solutions for them.

"Or a third party option for another company to come in and take that work force be in the building and then grow and create more jobs in our community so we're really confident that we'll have a real positive outcome and really a win/win for both our community and GE," she said.

GE leaders were in the community this afternoon to talk with big sky economic, community leaders and employees to inform everyone of the plans moving forward.

GE Capital will also continue to pay its lease until January of 2021.
