The first case of the influenza in Yellowstone County this season has been reported according to RiverStone Health.

RiverStone Health says the patient was hospitalized. Tests confirmed the individual had an Influenza A strain of the disease according to reports.

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services says the first case in the state was confirmed in mid-October. The DPHHS says as of November 12, there have been 41 reported cases of the flu in the state. Six of those individuals were hospitalized.

“The Yellowstone County case should remind everyone not to delay getting vaccinated each year against influenza,” says President and CEO of RiverStone Health, John Felton.

Felton emphasizes the need for vaccinations around the holiday season due to amplified traveling and shopping.

During the 2015-2016 flu season, according to RiverStone Health, 433 Montanans were hospitalized with the flu, 33 people died.
