Not everyone gets to celebrate 98 years, and it's a milestone one World War II veteran almost didn't reach 75 years ago.

Albert Wade said he was flying a B-17 (flying fortress) plane on December 7th, 1941.

"When we flew into Pearl Harbor, they shot us down like ducks," Wade said.

The bombing at Pearl Harbor claimed Wade's entire fleet. No one knew Wade had survived the attack. The pilot's family was told Wade was killed in action that day.

Wade said he was rescued by the American Red Cross and brought home, where he fell in love, got married, and began his family. Over the decades, Wade's family has grown to also include four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

On Saturday, November 20th, Wade's family and friends gathered to celebrate the veteran's 98th birthday at Billings Cracker Barrel.

Senator Steve Daines sent a letter to Wade thanking him for his service and wishing him a happy birthday as well. The letter was read aloud during the celebration.

Wade outlives his nine siblings and many of his friends, but said he plans to enjoy many more meals at his favorite restaurant, and many more birthdays.

"I'm going to live to be 125...i'll make it!"

Watch Wade's celebration and hear from the veteran on KULR-8 News tonight.
