Programs to honor veterans on Veterans Day

BILLINGS, Mont. -

November 11th we honor our nations veterans on Veterans Day.

It was 62 years ago November 11th became Veterans Day. Before that, it was known as Armistice Day.

Several events are happening in our area on the 11th to honor veterans.

The friends of Yellowstone National Cemetery Board and United Veterans Council will hold their annual Veterans Day Celebration at MetraPark. That starts at 10:30a.m. in the Atrium at Rimrock Auto Arena. The ringing of the bell will take place at 11:00a.m. Lunch will be served at noon at VFW Post 6774 at 637 Anchor Avenue.

In Terry, they will be dedicating a new Veterans Park. The dedication starts a 1:30p.m. Senator Jon Tester is expected to speak at 2:00pm..

An open house will be held Friday at Independence Hall in the Billings Heights. It's the 7th year the of the open house for the transitional living home for veterans. More than 350 veterans have been served since it opened in 2009. The open house is from 1:30 to 3:00p.m.

The annual Will James Middle School Veterans Day Assembly is Friday. The event starts at 9:00a.m. and will be held in the school's gym. This year's speaker is U.S Marine Corps veteran and purple heart recipient Chuck Hayter.
