MSU Billings students will trick-or-treat for canned goods Halloween night

Posted: Updated:

As you answer the door to trick-or-treaters this Halloween, you may also get a visit from one student group taking donations for a good cause.

The Community Involvement Group at MSU Billings is collecting items for Family Services' Food Bank and for the school's Yellowjacket Emergency Pantry, which collects goods for students in need.

Today between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. the group will be going door-to-door, not asking for candy, but collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries. They are also collecting these items at a drop-off bin behind Petro Hall at MSU Billings all day Halloween.

They say their biggest needs are cans of tuna, chicken and soup, Pop-Tarts and toothpaste.

"Now people have bags outside of their houses," says Kalen Hance, president of MSU Billing's Student United Way. "A lot of the neighborhoods are alerted so that they know ahead of time to prepare canned food if they're interested in donating."

You can also bring food to bins in front of the tech building at the MSUB City College on Halloween.

Yellowjacket Emergency Pantry accepts donations year round.
