Billings Wolves franchise won't return for third season

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

We are continuing to cover a developing story we first told you about on the  KULR-8 First News at five. Today the Billings Wolves announce they are suspending their season this year.

After two years, the Indoor Football League's, Billings Wolves franchise, says goodbye. Fans who keep up with the team may have seen it coming, after noticing players were signing deals elsewhere.

Wolves organizer, Marc Burr says in a press release, the team will not be a member of the IFL in 2017 due to disagreements over regulations. I've spoken with multiple players who say before leaving last season, they knew the team was folding.

Player Brandon Clarke says there was locker room talk of budgets and what funds needed to look like. He adds: due to not having enough fans in the arena, funds weren't there for the team.

One of our viewers, Laurie commented on our Facebook page about the w\Wolves announcement and says in part:
"The owners of the team thought that they could pick up were the Outlaws left off and make the same kind of money and they weren't so they decided to fold."

Many of the players have already signed with other IFL teams or are on the verge of doing so. Wolves defensive back, Michael Green, was recognized last season as a first-team all IFL Defensive Player and has signed with Wichita Falls.

The Billings Wolves will not be a part of the Indoor Football League in 2017. That's according to a statement sent by Marc Burr, the organizer of the Billings Wolves.

The Billings Wolves will not be an active member of the Indoor Football League in 2017 due to disagreements over regulations.

It’s unfortunate that the team has to suspend operations and I feel terrible that a deal was unable to be made that would have kept the team playing in 2017.

I’d like to thank the fans that came out on day one to support the team and watched as we went from a first year program to a playoff bound team in year two. I’d like to thank EFX Sports and all the sponsors who partnered with the Wolves over the last two years. I’d like to acknowledge the long hours that the coaching staff logged to go from a first year program that lost its first seven games to being in the playoffs in year two, hosting a playoff game. To all the staff that poured in hours setting up deals, promotions, running the clock, stats and the various groups that worked on game day the Wolves would not have been able to take the field without you.

Sincerely,

Marc Burr II & The Billings Wolves Organization
