Mail disappearing from resident's mailboxes

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

On Friday, we told you about voting ballots being stolen from your mailboxes. KULR-8 discovered, this may possibly be a bigger issue than originally reported.

The holiday season is on the horizon. 'Tis the season of hearing horror stories about personal packages and letters stolen, thieves hoping to get a free gift or money from someone else's mail.

A viewer, who we choose not to identify at this time, reached out to us on Facebook. She says, just like we reported Friday, she hasn't received her ballot.

To add to the case of the missing mail, the woman says a packaged was supposedly delivered just after 3 p.m. Friday. At 3:45 she went to get it but her front porch was empty.

A U.S. Postal Inspector we spoke to, encourages everyone to keep an eye out. And to report any suspicious activity if you see someone going through yours or a neighbor's mailbox.

To protect your mail from thieves, the postal inspectors website says to personally hand it to your letter carrier. If expecting checks or credit cars, ask a trusted neighbor to pick up your mail if you can't get it right away. If you change your address, notify your post office immediately.
