BILLINGS, Mont. -

A Billings man with a pipe bomb is arrested after he ran from police Tuesday afternoon.

According to Billings Sgt. Jason Gartner, police were called to the 400 block of Jackson Street after neighbors said they heard a man and woman fighting followed by the sound of a gunshot.

Police say they found 33-year-old Adam Grady at the scene.

Sgt. Gartner says officers had to chase Grady. It appeared he had several knives on him during the pursuit. He was also fidgeting with another item in his pocket according to officers.

Grady eventually followed officers' orders to drop the knives. Police say it appeared Grady pulled a flashlight from his pocket. When police apprehended Grady, it was discovered the flashlight was made into a homemade, improvised explosive device containing black powder and a fuse.

Sgt. Gartner says they arrested Grady on outstanding warrants, obstructing peace officers, resisting arrest and a felony assault on a peace officer.

Police were unable to locate a female and cannot confirm whether there were shots fired in the area.
