Bullock, Gianforte discuss Government Accountability Initiatives

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

The latest polls on the Gubernatorial Race are out and show Democratic Incumbent Steve Bullock and Republican challenger Greg Gianforte are neck and neck. Numbers from Mason-Dixon Polling and Research show just 2 points separating the front runners.

As election day approaches, both parties are discussing their initiatives for government accountability..

Democratic Incumbent Steve Bullock and Republican Candidate Greg Gianforte are talking about bringing transparency back into government.

This morning in Billings, Gianforte  announced his initiative on government accountability, if elected governor.

He says it will consist of two employees: a director and deputy director.

Gianforte says they will bring customer service metrics to all state agencies, and will identify and work with agencies to appeal excessive regulations.

"That office will be staffed out of the existing head count within the governors office, so there will be no new increase cost to the state
but we'll get it back many times over in the savings we identify," Gianforte said.

We also spoke with Governor Steve Bullock about government accountability. This is what he had to say:

Bullock's Campaign Manager Eric Hyers responded saying in part quote:
"We already have an accountability office. it is called the 'Montana Citizen's Advocate.' And under Steve Bullock's leadership, state agencies have cut or streamlined over 1,000 rules.

According to the Associated Press, the race is very close like mentioned. Both candidates encourage people to get out there and vote.
