A former CPA for the Crow Tribe pleaded guilty in federal court for embezzling from the tribe.

In a news release from the Crow Tribe, 43-year-old Karla E. MacCatherine of Billings pleaded guilty to embezzlement from an Indian tribal organization.

In 2014, the tribe states accounting discrepancies were reported to the office of inspector general.

The tribe states MacCatherine admitted to taking money from the tribe and depositing it into her account for personal use.

The tribe also states MacCatherine was their comptroller from February 2013 to August 2014.

The investigation revealed instances where MacCatherine issued double payments to herself and got paid for the hours she was on vacation.
