Heart and Sole Run presents $22,500 of proceeds to YMCA, Billings Trailnet

The 37th Annual Heart and Sole Run on June 18th included nearly 3,000 runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. This week, organizers of that run presented $22,500 of  the event's proceeds to the local YMCA and Billings Trailnet.

Both Billings organizations were presented with a check for $11,250 Wednesday at a celebration in the YMCA's Thomas Gymnasium. Children from the YMCA's after-school program attended the ceremony and spelled out "thank you" to express gratitude for funding that will support their programs and others activities in the community.

Dennis Sulser, President and CEO of the St. Vincent Healthcare Foundation, said his organization is pleased to sponsor the event that helps provide the community with opportunities to be healthy and active.

"(It helps) people take a healthy look at their lifestyles," Sulser said, "what to we need to do to be better and be better prepared, not just for today but for tomorrow and the future as far as our health goes.""

Sulser said proceeds donated Wednesday will go towards developing more local trails and offering more programs like the YMCA's after-school child care. He and other sponsors also look forward to continuing to watch the Heart and Sole Run grow and unite a community behind a healthy cause.

"It's been a great event in our community for many, many years," said Montana Amateur Sports Director Karen Sanford Gall, "and just the celebration of being able to give back to other healthy lifestyle programs."

Montana Amateur Sports manages the Annual Heart and Sole Run, which includes a 5K, 10K, and 2 mile walk. The 37th run included 300 volunteers a "Montana Active Life Festival" in Dehler Park with booths, youth activities and fun for the whole family.

Hear from Gall and Sulser on KULR-8 tonight as we share today's presentation ceremony and it's significance.

More than 300 volunteers and thousands of participants made the 37th Heart and Sole Run possible, and we look forward to continuing to share the generous heart and soul of the Billings community.
