Are your tires ready for winter?

Posted: Updated:

Are the tires on your vehicle ready for winter?

On Tuesday we spoke with numerous tire shops, and they tell us their phones have been ringing off the hook.

Jared McDermott, the co-owner of LP Anderson Tire, says get your snow tires on now. Don't wait until the next round of snow.

McDermott tells us most of the time newer vehicles come with quality all-season tires which are great if you're just driving around town. McDermott says if you're traveling long distances you may want to invest in snow tires. He says siping your tires can make a big difference. McDermott says siping is the process of cutting thin slits across the surface of a tire to improve traction for driving in snowy, wet or icy conditions.

If you're trying to figure out what to do with your tires – whether you should get studded tires, all-season tires or have tire technicians sipe your tires – just bring it into a tire shop, and they'll give you their expert opinion.

McDermott also gave us an illustration on the proper way to put on chains. (Watch the video above for an illustration)

Law enforcement wants to remind all drivers to pull over in a safe location when putting chains on your vehicle, especially at night.
