Capturing Montana's Beauty

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

As the seasons change we love receiving your viewer photos, whether they are of the leaves changing, storms approaching, or some of Montana's favorite furry friends.

If you aren't a professional photographer, don't worry, KULR-8 met with a local storm chaser, who specializes in photography, to find out some best practices on how to take the perfect picture on your smartphone.

Dan Berry, said with photography, most of it is going to be art, or self expression. He said you can download several apps to enhance colors, correct the sharpness, or even distort the image, but sometimes capturing the right shot just depends on the angle and lighting.

“Angles are a huge thing, making sure that you get the right angles on there with the sunlight and the right area. That kind of stuff is really important to making a pretty good picture,” said Berry.

When he shares weather photos, Berry said he likes to show exactly what he's seeing, choosing to pass on adding effects and filters. This always helps meteorologists know what's happening across the state.

Other times, when Berry is taking more scenic photos, he said he'll pass by a location 100 times before he see's the right light, but no matter what grabs your attention and causes you take a picture, make sure to have fun and play around with different options. Whether that's turning your camera from portrait to landscape, or adding more or less light to your picture.

“Just get out there and do it. There's so much out there that you can capture that people have not seen before and that's probably the biggest thing.taking a picture of something that somebody's never taken a picture of,” said Berry.

We hope these tips help and we look forward to receiving more of your viewer photos.
