Community gathers at Head Start for celebration

Posted: Updated:

Head Start Inc., in Billings, marks its 45th Anniversary September 28th. The agency also celebrates American Indian Culture this week.

Throughout the week, pre-school children are exploring traditional components of the American Indian Culture such as beading, dancing, feather painting, storytelling and more. Head Start families and community gathered Wednesday to enjoy traditional Native American dancing, music and food.

Tera Clough, of Head Start Inc., said, “It's been really fun for the children to come in and talk about their culture to all of their friends and it's been really fun to see all the children get excited about the bead work, and the teepee, and to hear the stories. They're just really having fun with it.”

When Clough was asked what she would like to see in the years to come at Head Start, she said, to be able to serve more children. Head Start Billings currently serves 360 children and she would like to see that number increase to a thousand.
