Rocky Opens Jason Petrino Era with Win Over MSU Northern

Posted: Updated:

The Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears opened the 2016 season with a 31-21 win over the Montana State University Northern Lights. The Bears kicked off their scoring in the second quarter with a fourth down throw from Chase White to Kalen Reed to put Rocky up 7-0. But after a muffed punt inside the five yard line from the Bears, the Lights took over, and Zach McKinley punched in a five yard score to tie it up at 7-7. A quarterback keeper, and an interception returned to the three yard line by Rocky's Markale Moses made it a 21-7 Bears lead at half. The Lights battled turnovers inside the five yard line throughout the second half, as they ultimately fell 31-21. Rocky will play Big Sky opponent University of Northern Colorado on September 3rd, while MSU Northern will have a bye next week, and will play in Butte versus Montana Tech on September 10th.
