Suspect in custody following five-hour standoff in Billings
SUSPECT ARRESTED FOLLOWING FIVE-HOUR STANDOFF
Billings Police Department says a man in custody following a five-hour standoff overnight in Billings.
Chief Rich St. John says the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was in pursuit of a suspect Wednesday night when the suspect ran into a home's garage at the corner of 11th Ave. North and North 31st St. near St. Vincent Healthcare.
The SWAT team was called in to back them up, along with Billings Police negotiators. Sheriff's deputies and rescue crews were also on scene.
Law enforcement tried talking to the suspect with a megaphone, asking him to answer his phone according to our reporter on scene. After hours of negotiation, Billings Police say 35-year-old Jimmy Walker surrendered around 1:30 a.m. He was taken into custody by Probation and Parole according to Billings Lt. Shawn Mayo.
Traffic was detoured in the neighborhood during the incident.
