Rocky Football Opens Camp Ready to Make Impact

Posted: Updated:

Sunday was officially the kick off for the Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears training camp, and it couldn't come a moment to soon with the season 20 days away.

This is new head coach Jason Petrino's first camp with Rocky. Yesterday the team held a conditioning session to get a feel for the new turf that also had the feel of a first practice. And after getting their feet wet yesterday, both he and his staff were eager to get to some real coaching at Herb Klindt Field

"It's great to get out here," said Petrino. "You always want a little bit more time, you always wonder did we get everything done, dot the "i's" and cross the "t's", but more importantly, we just wanted to get out here, and get around these players. We've been talking to these guys for a long time. We've had 41 new players join our program, and a great group that we've already established. And it's about over these next two and a half weeks of blending and coming together, and that's the exciting time."

The Battlin' Bears kick off their season three weeks from today in Havre against MSU Northern. The home opener will be a couple of weeks after that on September 10th when the Bears host Carroll.
