United Way starts Operation School Supply Drive

Posted: Updated:

Shopping for school supplies can start to add up fast. Notebooks, pencils and anything else a young student needs can get expensive. United way is setting up collection locations at their building, Shopko, and right here at KULR 8.

Just picking up an extra glue stick or notebook can help a child who may not have one.

Teal Whitaker with United Way says volunteers will work to distribute the goods to local billings schools. Teachers at the schools will keep the supplies in their rooms and distribute them to students who need them throughout the year.

Whitaker says the best way to know what other students need is to think about what your kids need or once needed in school.

"In terms of what are needed at these school pantries are things like glue sticks, crayons, paper," Whitaker said. "As well as hygiene products like deodorant and soap to offer supplies that help kids succeed."

Whitaker says the best way to know what other students need is to think about what your kids need or once needed in school.

Whitaker also says one of the goals at United Way is to see the graduation rate increase to 95-percent by 2025. The drive ends on September 8th.
