GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado - The Billings Mustangs (22-13) earned a berth in the 2016 Pioneer League Playoffs with a 12-2 win over the Grand Junction Rockies (15-20) on Sunday in front of 1,687 at Suplizio Field.

Moises Nova made the start for Billings, giving up two runs in his four innings. Both runs would come in the first. Trailing 1-0 going to the bottom of the first, the Rockies took their first and only lead of the night. Brian Serven picked up an RBI single to score Jose Gomez to make it a 2-1 lead. Serven went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Mustangs took back the lead for good in the top of the second when they scored five runs off starter Ty Culbreth (0-3). Daniel Sweet added in his second triple of the game and scored his second run as well. The Mustangs hit four triples and seven extra-base hits on Sunday, both were season-highs as a team.

Leading 7-2 going to the seventh, the Mustangs added on some insurance runs which made the lead untouchable. Five would score over the next two frames, making it a 10-run victory. It was the eighth time this season that they have posted 10 or more runs.

Alex Webb (4-0) was outstanding in four innings of shutout relief. He would strike out two and not issue a walk. He leads the team with four wins on the season.

Aaron Quillen finished off the win, pitching a scoreless ninth to secure the victory and playoff berth.

The Mustangs now travel to Orem to finish off their first 38 games of the season before starting fresh back at home against Great Falls for the second half. First pitch on Monday from the "Home of the Owlz" is set for 7:05 p.m.
