Stella Steps Up Week 8: Sister trainers motivate others to get healthy

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

Losing weight and feeling better can be motivation enough to exercise, but many times, it's our trainers who keep us coming back for more. This time in Stella Steps Up, we shine the spotlight on two extremely popular trainers, with a lot in common.

You could call them the dynamic duo at Granite Health & Fitness. Many clients do. There's trainer/instructor Jenn Thompson and trainer/instructor Kari Bogner. They are sisters.

"It's fun, it's special that I get to do that with my sister," Bogner said. "We've been working out together and competing and pushing each other since I was in high school and she was in 8th grade. It's about when we started."

They were athletes first, and these days, they play an important role in keeping clients, including members of the KULR-8 team, coming back for more.

"I feel so blessed to have this job," Jenn Thompson said. "I mean honestly, it really is the best thing in the world. I think it's a ton of fun to bring fitness to people and have them enjoy it."

Clients love their tough workouts, but their fitness formula appears to contain some special ingredients.

"They smile. They make you feel like you can do it when your body wants to give up, you keep pushing. they're just great people," said Nicole Balster, a client and former trainer.

"It's just their charisma and the passion that they bring motivates people who are taking their classes," said client Teal Pates.

Their packed classes take lots of preparation. But underneath all of the layers of proper technique, instruction and an extensive knowledge about good nutrition, is pure fun.

"I try and make sure we have those opportunities to have that little break from just crazy intensity to and really get that chance to enjoy feeling fit together," Thompson said.

"People at Granite are tough," Bogner said. "They work hard and they want a good workout so it's honestly hard not to be motivated up on the stage, it really is."

Thompson and Bogner said staying current on fitness science and nutrition is a very important part of the job and so is staying focused on the energy of each class.
